Most FC 27 advice is about tactics, formations and skill moves, but the kit in your hands affects every one of them. A controller with worn sticks makes a heel-to-heel go wrong. A headset that cuts out ruins Pro Clubs voice chat. Buying the wrong gift card means you can't top up the account you play on. This guide explains what's worth buying for FC 27, what isn't, and what to check before you spend anything.

We don't list prices because they change every day and we won't show figures we can't keep up to date. Every button opens a live Amazon UK search, so you see current prices, stock and reviews yourself. We've grouped the products by what they actually help you do in the game, with plain advice on each.

Do you actually need new gear for FC 27?

Honestly, most players don't. The standard PS5 DualSense or Xbox Wireless Controller is what the game is designed around, and plenty of top Rivals and Champions players use one. Upgrades make sense when something is holding you back: drifting sticks, a pad that dies mid-match, voice chat nobody can hear, or a TV with so much delay that your timing always feels off.

Before buying anything, check your setup for free. Turn on your TV's Game Mode, which cuts input lag on most modern sets. Go through our controller settings guide so your passing, shooting and switching settings suit how you play. Then play a few matches and notice what still annoys you. That's the thing to spend money on.

Choosing a controller for skill moves and defending

Skill moves in FC 27 are mostly right-stick inputs, and manual defending depends on holding jockey while you move the left stick precisely. A worn or drifting stick makes both harder, because the game reads movements you didn't mean. If your player drifts when you aren't touching the stick, or a flick input keeps coming out as a different move, the stick module is likely worn.

The official DualSense is the safest choice on PS5, and the Xbox Wireless Controller on Xbox. Both also work on PC. The Xbox pad is especially easy to use there.

Pro controllers like the DualSense Edge add back buttons and swappable stick modules. Back buttons are the real advantage in FC. You can map jockey, sprint or player switching to a paddle, so your thumbs stay on the sticks. That helps most when defending, where you're jockeying, switching and moving at the same time. Swappable sticks also mean drift doesn't make you replace the whole controller.

Third-party pro pads with paddles are cheaper, but quality varies a lot. Read recent reviews, check the pad is officially licensed for your console, and make sure it supports wireless play on PS5 if that matters to you. Some unlicensed pads only work wired or stop working after console updates.

Charging docks and thumb grips

A charging dock is a small buy that stops a common problem: the battery dying halfway through Division Rivals. Look for one made for your exact controller, because the DualSense and DualSense Edge use different shapes and connectors from Xbox pads. Xbox controllers often use AA batteries or a rechargeable pack, so check what yours needs.

Thumb grips slip over the sticks to add grip and sometimes a little height. Taller grips make movements more precise, which some players like for dribbling. Others find them slower to react. They're cheap, so they're an easy experiment. Avoid grips that stop the stick reaching its full range.

Gaming headsets: what matters for FC

In FC 27, a headset matters most in Pro Clubs and any time you're in party chat with friends. The most important part is the microphone, not fancy surround sound. Teammates need to hear you calling for the ball or warning about a runner.

Wired headsets that plug into the controller are simple, reliable and work on both PS5 and Xbox. Wireless headsets remove the cable but need charging, and on Xbox only officially licensed models connect directly to the console. That's why we've given Xbox its own search. On PS5, most USB wireless headsets work through their own dongle.

If you're just starting out, a budget wired headset with a decent mic is fine. Spend more when you play every night and comfort over long sessions starts to matter. Look for soft ear cushions and a light headband.

Game codes, gift cards and FC Points

Digital gift cards are the safest way to top up your console wallet for FC Points, games or subscriptions. A PlayStation Store gift card adds money to your PSN account, and an Xbox gift card adds money to your Microsoft account. Buy one for the same country as your account: a UK account needs a UK card. Codes from other regions usually won't redeem.

To play FC 27 online on PS5 you need PlayStation Plus. On Xbox, Game Pass Ultimate covers online play and includes EA Play, which usually gives early trial access to new EA SPORTS FC games and some in-game rewards. Check the current terms on the official store before buying, because what's included can change.

Only buy codes from Amazon itself, or another big shop you trust. Cheap codes from unknown sellers or key resale sites are sometimes stolen or region-locked, and EA can ban accounts tied to fraudulent purchases. Never buy FC coins from coin-selling sites. It's against EA's rules and puts your Ultimate Team account at risk.

Monitors and input lag

Input lag is the delay between pressing a button and seeing it happen on screen. In a game about timing, like FC 27, a laggy TV can make you feel slow even when your inputs are right. Start with Game Mode on your TV. If you're buying a dedicated screen, look for a gaming monitor with low input lag and HDMI 2.1 if you want 120Hz on PS5 or Xbox Series X.

A higher refresh rate only helps if the game and console support it in the mode you play, so check before paying extra just for that. For most players, simply switching on Game Mode makes the biggest difference.

Our buying checklist

Check it works with your console: PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC. Check it's officially licensed if it's a wireless controller or headset. Check gift cards match your account's country. Read recent reviews, not just the star rating. Keep your receipt, because stick drift often shows up within months and is usually covered by the warranty.

Most importantly, gear supports good play but doesn't replace it. A better controller won't fix a formation that leaves gaps, so use what you buy alongside our tactics, formations and manual defending guides.

FAQ

What is the best controller for FC 27?

For most players, the official controller for their console: the DualSense on PS5 or the Xbox Wireless Controller on Xbox. Pro pads with back buttons, like the DualSense Edge, help if you want to map jockey or sprint to a paddle.

Do back paddles help in FC 27?

They can, especially in defending. Mapping jockey or player switching to a back button lets you keep both thumbs on the sticks.

Can I buy FC Points with a gift card?

Yes. Add a PlayStation Store or Xbox gift card to your account wallet, then buy FC Points in the store or in the game. Make sure the card matches your account's country.

Do I need PlayStation Plus to play FC 27 online?

On PS5, yes, online play needs PlayStation Plus. On Xbox, online play needs a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer.

Why don't you show prices?

Prices change constantly. Each button opens a live Amazon UK search, so you always see the current price instead of an out-of-date one.
